The Barn
THE BARN

The newly renovated Barn at our farm is a great place for weddings, conferences or other kinds of gatherings and celebrations.

​

Capacity:

Seminar/conference: 50 people

Sit-down dinner: 100 people

Cocktail reception/party: 150 people

​

The facilities include screen and projector, wi-fi and sound system. The Barn has a full-size catering kitchen.

THE HAY LOFT

A new addition to the Barn is the Hay Loft, a conference room with plenty of space for various kinds of events.

​

Capacity: 

Seminar/conference: 50 people
Sit-down dinner: 50 people

Auditorium seating: 80 people

​

The latest facilities here include a full-size catering kitchen, and of course screen and projector, wi-fi and sound system.

​

The Hay Loft and the Barn are separate spaces, but can be booked together for larger events.

Or perhaps you imagine a real Birkebeiner wedding, with our unique viking cabins as the backdrop for an unforgettable reception, or even for the ceremony itself?

The farm and cabins from the film The Last King

On the 12th February 2016 the film The Last King premiered nationwide. The cabins that were used in the film were moved to Mesna, where they serve as an atmospheric setting for gatherings and activities, both summer and winter.

Mesna caters for all kinds of company events. The Barn and the Hay Loft has space for seminars and presentations, with seating for up to 100 people, and full audio-visual facilities.

There is parking adjacent to the farm, and Mesnabakken offers overnight accommodation for up to 50 people. More accommodation can be found in the area.

​

Our professional kitchen can serve breakfast, lunch or dinner. And when your team needs a break, we can arrange a wide range of team-building activities and challenges.

OTHER EVENTS

Mesna Activities is located in beautiful surroundings with forests, lakes and mountains near by. Experience a day full of nature-based activities, good food and drink.

BOOK AN ACTIVITY
Horse riding

Enjoy nature from horseback

We organize group rides from 2 hours to 6 days. We ride Icelandic horses in forest- or mountain terrain, and place great emphasis on finding a horse to suit you, and a pace that suits everyone. On our longer rides we bring along a pack horse and coffee pot for a campfire lunch break.

Team building

Have fun and get to know people

In collaboration with professional team building consultants we organize games, competitions and activities. Everyone can take part, and all levels of experience and ability will come in useful. The activities will be tailor-made for your team by our collaborators, and include shooting, rafting, paddling, fire making and other games and competitions!

Archery

Who can hit bullseye?

Experienced archer Keith Richardson makes sure you get an efficient introduction, and then we arrange competitions for the best team as well as the best shooter. In the winter we can combine archery and skiing, or arrange an archery relay race!

River Kayaking

Paddle through amazing scenery

The Åsta River is  perfect for canoe- or kayak paddling. You glide silently along the river, the kingdom of the beaver, past marshlands teeming with wildlife.

The tour lasts approx. 2-3 hours, including a camp fire break. Can be combined with a bike ride along mountain- and forest roads back to Mesna. Popular with both schools and businesses.

For smaller or larger groups. Spring and summer.

Dog Sledding

Friendly dogs and lots of fun

Man's best friend is more than just a pet - dog sledding gives you the opportunity to experience eager dogs in their element! You will experience the wonderful combination of speed and silence, as the pack of dogs pull you along the lake and the inland trails.

Minimum 15 people. Winter.

Ice Bathing

Will you take the plunge?

Ice bathing invigorates body and soul! This is the coldest activity we have on offer, but perhaps one of the liveliest. We guarantee a safe and unforgettable experience. To get your body temperature quickly back to normal, you can step into a steaming jacuzzi right by the water, or have a hot toddy back at the Barn.

For larger groups. Winter only!

Snow Rafting

A blizzard of excitement

You'll spin down the toboggan run in sturdy snow tubes, and a snowmobile is ready to give you a fast and exciting lift back up. This is a winter game with a difference for all ages, if you thought you were an adult, you'll soon forget!

Minimum group size 15 people. Winter.

Sleigh Ride

Jingle bells and a camp fire

Experience our magical winter forest from a sleigh, pulled by strong, steaming horses. Along the way we serve hot drinks from a campfire in the woods. The horses, the silence and the snowy trees ensure a magical experience.

Soft Tubs

Well-being and relaxation

After an active day, a hot bubble bath under a starry sky is just the thing. In quiet surroundings you can combine the warm soft tubs with ice bathing or a refreshing snow bath. Soft tubs can be placed wherever you want and be ready when you want them.

THINGS TO DO IN THE AREA

There are many activities and attractions in the Mesna region. Skiing in the winter, downhill or cross-country, and hiking, biking, climbing and other mountain activities in the summer.

And lots of places to visit! The olympic towns of Lillehammer og Hamar, Maihaugen open-air museum, Hunderfossen family park, swimming pools, galleries...

The Birkebeinerspelet Play

Outdoor theatre - with horses!

Birkebeinerspelet tells the story of the 

narrow escape of a king's illegitimate son, a story that changed the history of Norway.
This 45 minute live action experience staged at Mesna tells this true story in real Viking style. The play takes place outside in a spectacular winter landscape, and features well-known Norwegian actors, live fighting, fire, snow and lots of Icelandic horses.

Dates 2019: February 15th, 16th, 21st, 22nd, 23rd.

The Prøysen House

A national cultural centre dedicated to Alf Prøysen

The Prøysen House, a cultural centre dedicated to the poet and singer Alf Prøysen (1914-1970) was designed by the well known architecture firm Snøhetta in an idiom that blends in with the surrounding forest. Inside the house you will find Café Julie, a Prøysen shop, events and exhibitions and activities for the whole family.

Maihaugen

Norway’s largest open air museum

Bring the whole family and enjoy Maihaugen, the open-air museum at Lillehammer, where you can experience what life was like 200 years ago, take part in the exciting wandering theatre and visit houses from each decade of the 1900's. See traditional crafts and learn about the cultural landscape of mountain farms, with animals grazing among the buildings.

Biking Trails

Competing in the Birkebeiner Race?

The Birkebeiner Race is the World's Largest MTB race, with 17,000 participants. Mesnabakken offers the perfect accommodation for the dedicated rider. It is located in an area full of forest roads and trails – perfect for training and restitution.

Cross-country skiing

Norway's best ski trails

With more than 300 km of well-prepared tracks across easy mountain terrain, the ski trails of Sjusjøen have been voted the best in Norway for several years running.

From Mesnabakken you can follow a track through peaceful woodland, which connects you directly to this cross-country paradise.

Tobogganing

Play in the snow

There is a a lovely toboggan run just outside the Mesnabakken Pension. Here you can test the speed with our snowtubes, or let your creativity flourish making sculptures in the snow! Good exercise and great fun for all ages.

Hafjell Ski Resort

Norway's third largest ski resort

Hafjell Ski Resort welcomes you to 44 km of slopes, international known ski parks and up-to-date downhill adventures for all ages.

At Hafjell you will find both family-friendly skiing and fast-paced action.

Just a fifteen minute drive north of Lillehammer, Hafjell is one of the largest and most versatile ski resorts in Norway, with skiing for all levels.

Sjusjøen Ski Centre

A centre for the whole family

Sjusjøen Ski Center opened in 2003, with express lifts and and great slopes for children, with free lifts. The slopes have a vertical drop of 250 metres. Snowboard and twin-tip riders enjoy the park with rails, jumps, box and big jump. The off-piste area is also a good place to enjoy your skiing experience.

Sjusjøen Husky Tours

A fantastic way to experience nature

Try dog sledding with Sjusjøen Husky Tours, with friendly huskies and Alaska malamutes in fantastic mountain landscape at Sjusjøen, 30 minutes from Lillehammer. They arrange tours mostly at winter time, but in autumn you may join them on wheels! After the tours, everyone gets together in their lavvu tent, enjoying bread twists and warm drinks.

Hunderfossen Family Park

The land of trolls and fairy tales!

Hunderfossen Family Park is one of Norway's favourite tourist attractions, with wild rides, go-cart, rafting and climbing, a 70 tonne troll, a fairytale castle and a 

Science Centre. Entertainment for all the family. A Kid's Farm, Hotels and camp site nearby.

Lillehammer

Visit the olympic town!

The town of Lillehammer has been a regional centre and the gateway to the Gudbrandsdalen Valley for centuries. Since hosting the Winter Olympics in 1994, the town has been well known as a major winter sports destination, but it also offers summer activities and plenty of local culture!

Hamar

History and architecture

The headland of Domkirkeodden lies just north of the town of Hamar. An important 

regional centre since mediaeval times, one of the main attractions is the ruin of the 11th Century cathedral, protected by a modern structure of steel and glass. The former Archbishop's Palace now contains a local museum, one of the major works of the famous architect Sverre Fehn.
